The Ohio House of Representatives has passed the Strategic Community Investment Fund, a significant initiative that includes historic investments for local projects. Vice Chairman of the House Finance Committee, State Rep. Jeff LaRe (R-Violet Twp.), made the announcement.

The Strategic Community Investment Fund, established under the state's main operating budget in 2023, sets aside $350 million for statewide, regional, and local projects. This includes nearly $15.5 million specifically allocated for Fairfield County and the surrounding communities. The fund utilizes excess funding from the previous fiscal year.

State Rep. Jeff LaRe emphasized the importance of these investments, stating, "These investments honor community roots while anticipating the future and strengthening our communities to serve generations of Ohioans yet to come."

Thanks to responsible fiscal stewardship, LaRe was able to secure one-time funding for various projects in Fairfield County. These include:

- $10 million to revitalize the Buckeye Lake North Shore Park and Pier, preserving Ohio's oldest state park and a popular tourist destination.

- $2 million to purchase and renovate the Fairfield County Government Services Building, providing valuable resources to county residents.

- $1 million to repurpose the OP Chaney Grain Elevator into a cultural heritage event center, ensuring the preservation of community history for future generations.

- $1 million to renovate the Violet Township Event Center, boosting the local entertainment industry.

- $350,000 to rehabilitate the Zeller-Smith covered bridge, prioritizing public safety and maintaining a historic local landmark.

- $250,000 to upgrade the Wendel Pool Dehumidification System at the Family YMCA of Lancaster and Fairfield County, enhancing community programs for children and families.

- $234,410 to establish Pickerington Connects and develop new pathways and walkways, promoting outdoor recreation and connecting local businesses.

- $225,000 to replace the Elmwood Playground, creating a neighborhood gathering place and fostering fun.

- $150,000 to restore the Lancaster Bell and Clock Tower, contributing to downtown preservation.

- $125,000 to support the Sycamore Creek Park Pond Restoration, preserving the infrastructure and natural beauty of the area.

- $100,000 to modernize the Expanding Horizons Meals on Wheels Senior Services Center, ensuring that Ohio seniors receive the care and support they deserve.

These local investments are part of a larger legislative effort that includes statewide capital investments. The approved legislation allocates:

- $600 million for the School Building Program Assistance Fund.

- $400 million for the Public Works Commission Local Public Infrastructure and State Capital Improvement Program.

- $397.6 million for higher education projects across the state.

- $250 million for local jail construction throughout Ohio.

All of these investments will be incorporated into the State Capital Budget bill, a two-year construction budget for capital projects.

This strategic allocation of funds demonstrates Ohio's commitment to supporting local communities and investing in their future growth and development. By prioritizing projects that preserve historical landmarks, enhance recreational opportunities, and provide essential resources, Ohio is ensuring a brighter future for its residents.
